At first I wasn’t as passionate as my grandma about taking care of animals, her intensity even seemed a little strange sometimes, but I slowly started seeing and understanding the marvellous insights she had during our long walks with dogs, cats and even the parrots following us, calmly, unleashed, strolling down a trail. 

 I came to Los Angeles in 1985, when I was 21 years old, to study Interior Design, which has been a very satisfying career, being successful at it in this country.  While I was in school, I worked as a nanny, the children many times had pets, and I loved making strong connections with them, I noticed how easy it was for me to understand them, one of my friends called me “the dog whisperer”, it is the best compliment I ever received, I want to be like my grandma one day.  

 In 2018, Benz passed away, I loved Mercedes too, deeply, but Benz was my favorite, like a kindred spirit, a soul friend, for a time I was very sad, but the pain was eased while taking care of my friends’ dogs, while their humans traveled, they brought the joy again, I became their aunty, so my mom, Lidia, said “you should open a doggy hotel”.   

 I liked the new idea, so I started researching the places available near me, the options I found I didn’t like, the dogs were isolated in rooms or crates, they looked sad, so I decided to develop my own concept guided by how I would like my dogs to be treated, that is how Doggie House was born.  

 This is a place where dogs are at home, they can climb sofas, go to the terrace and the garden, take a swim in their little pool, run around in a pack with other dogs which they absolutely love because it is their nature, sleep in the bed under my supervision and care, never locked in a crate.

I am proud of the dog home I have created in honor of Mercedes and Benz, I am sure my grandma Alejandra would approve it, as she is always present in that connection I have with these little ones.
